Adieu Bleu

Today is the last day for sharing scrappy blue projects for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  This January was blessed with 5 Saturdays, so that meant lots of time for playing with blue scraps.  Although I didn't construct a lot of blue blocks, or finish any blue quilts, I still feel I made good use of lots of blue scraps!
This week I finished a batch of 4" Sawtooth Stars.  These will get added to last year's blocks, which will eventually become a very scrappy rainbow star quilt.

The sailboat blocks were a souvenir from a quilt show in 1993.  They were all stitched by different hands and were not all the same size  I decided to use the wonky setting technique Bonnie Hunter used on her Happy Scrappy Houses to get the blocks to a uniform size.  The sashing and cornerstone fabrics are all from the scrap stash.  I think I'd like to add another outer border, but it depends on what I can find in my stash.  I'm really happy to have finally put these blocks to use!

Since my stash of blue scraps is endless, I'm sure I'll be returning to scrappy blue piecing throughout the year.  For now though, I'm looking forward to focusing on another color and seeing what inspiration strikes.

  3. Lots of nice blocks. I set some Santa blocks, from an exchange, with the wonky setting, several years ago.

  5. I love those little boats. They look like they are sailing rough seas, up and down the waves. LOL Perfect setting for them.

  6. Those sailboats could be rockin' and rollin' in Lake Pontchatrain!! Perfect setting for them!

  7. Sawtooth stars are so lovely, I particularly like the cabbage/rose one. Love how you set the ships wonky, they look like they are riding the waves.

  8. Isn't that just the thing with 'group' quilts. Everyone's interpretation of a quarter inch seam is different, or as one quilter called it PPM - Personal Private Measurement. The wonky setting is really the right 'life saver' for those sailing ships. Quilt on Sailor.

  12. Blue is my favorite color, so it's been fun to see everyone's scrappy blue blocks. I love how you set your boats--good idea to handle different sized blocks and they look like they are riding the waves--cute!

  14. The wonky technique you used to ser your non-uniformed block was a great way to use those sailboat blocks. The blue scrappy sawtooth blocks are sweet and make a good beginning to the scrappy new project.

  15. Blue scraps truly are endless! I was looking through my 1.5" scraps in the hopes of starting a new spools quilt, but with over half the box being blue, there simply isn't enough variety. I shall have to remedy that... Next year!

  16. Love the fun scraps you used on the stars, insects, fish, cows, etc. The ships are sailing merrily now, even the giant fish looks right at home. Good solution to go wonky.

  18. Love the cow in the star! Very fun. That wonky setting for the sail boats makes them look like they are bobbing up and down on the waves. Great idea!
