Remembering Avocado Green

Do you remember the decorator color Avocado Green?  It was all the rage in the late 1960s and my mom loved it.  As luck would have it, we moved into a new home during that time, and our house was full of avocado green.  I liked the color as a child, but by the time I was old enough to have my own home, it had become a frumpy cliche' of that era.

I was charmed by this avocado green house when I saw it last fall, though.  The avocado looks great with all the crisp white trim.  It got me thinking a little more kindly about that particular shade of green and noticing that there seems to be renewed interest in the color.

So, of course, my house is inspired by avocado this week.

Other Rainbow Scrappers have been inspired by the color green this week as well.  Do stop by Soscrappy's blog to see what everyone has been creating!

  1. Adorable house--my shower stall is avocado green! I don't mind it, but DH hates it! Colors engender strong feelings I guess. Julierose

  4. Love your green house, especially the flower in the door and window. During the avocado & gold era we somehow had copper/brown tone appliances.

  8. No avocado green for me! There was burnt orange carpet in this house when we bought it, though. That had to go!

  10. I got a good chuckle from the top picture of the kitchen. Isn't it amazing how the 'trends' always seem to come back in some form.
Love your little house block - the blooms in the window and door are great.

  11. When my inlaws remodeled their house, about 24 years ago, they had a bathroom all done in Avocado green. They kept the tile floor, but, had the tub and surrounding tile professionally 'painted'. Because of the deep green, the tub area turned out a strange dark cream color.
