Thanks to some dedicated sewing time last weekend, I was able to finish piecing my version of Diane Knott's Summer Star Scrappy Sew Along quilt.
The SAL appealed to me because it was a scrappy project and I felt the need to make use of more fabrics and scraps from the blue stash. My blue fabric stash is huge and never seems to shrink, so this seemed like a good way to try to make a dent.
This did help me use up lots of blue scraps and when the scraps were used up I cut into yardage. The blue fabric drawers now have a bit more room, but they're far from empty! I also made a big dent in my collection of off-white, cream and white scraps and yardage.
This is not a complicated pattern, and Diane's instructions are very clear. The assembly went quickly, especially since I had a stack of ready-cut blue strips left over from other projects. The finished quilt is about 90 inches by 90 inches. I will have it quilted by my local long-arm quilter - there's no way I want to attempt to quilt this on my sewing machine!
And...amazingly - I just noticed a mistake in the top row. I never even saw this when it was pinned to the design wall!
Just beautiful finish on this flimsy, Angie! Hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful blue fabrics! What a great pattern for using up lots and lots of scraps.
ReplyDeleteWOW this is an amazing pattern and such a beautiful finish! Congratulations! :)
ReplyDeleteI am not even going to look for the mistake :) Isn't it funny that we never see them until we take a photo!!!
This turned out beautifully, Angie! I can't even begin to imagine how much blue you have if this quilt just gave you "a bit" more room. And I rather like the "missssssnake".
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!!! This is a wonderful top. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous, oopsie and all! 8)

ReplyDeletewow - that is a lot of piecing! well done!!
ReplyDeleteStunning--what a great project to use up some of your stash! I love how graphic it is. It's really a nice big size too. Congrats on a beautiful finish--even with that errant blue piece--lol!
ReplyDeleteThat is just gorgeous! I love the variety of blues and the different background colors all mixing together. I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't notice mistakes until I'm looking at a photo!
ReplyDeleteYour scrappy star quilt is so gorgeous! Love it in the Blues!
ReplyDeleteI just love this quilt, love the blues, love the scrappiness and that little blue square (which I didn't even notice until you mentioned it) has character - it's mischievous.
ReplyDeleteSo funny to find a mistake after the entire quilt top is sewn together! We look and look and look, yep! ready to go! and then later there it is, staring us in the face.:) It's a great looking quilt top and I'm sure there is a lot of satisfaction in using up some more of the blues!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt!
