Abundantly Complete

This week I added the final quilting stitches and sewed down the binding on my version of Abundance.  I enjoyed Lori's mini quilt along project and I especially enjoyed using some delicately aged Robin Pandolph fabrics from my stash! 

There's still quite a bit of those lovely fabrics left, so I decided to make another small quilt.

I turned to one of my antique quilt resources, Childhood Treasures:  Doll Quilts By and For Children by Merikay Waldvogel.  This charming book contains page after page of small quilt inspiration!

LeMoyne stars have been on my quilting bucket list for a long time.  There's no pattern for this quilt in the book, but I look forward to drafting my own.  I'm looking forward to this project!

Sunday Night Slowdown

My goal for the weekend was to finish this baby quilt.  Success on that front, although I still need to mark it for quilting and get it bin-basted.  This is just a teaser, I'll wait and show the entire quilt when it's finished.

I did discover a new favorite fabric staple while making this quilt.  Kona Snow from the Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton line, is a soft white that works perfectly with pastels.  I had ordered a yard from an online site just to see if I liked it as a staple, and was very pleased with how it worked with the Hushabye fabric.  Best of all, I can get it at my local Hancock Fabrics, so if I need it in a hurry I can get it right away!

Next up, I finished hand-quilting this mini quilt last night while enjoying a fire in the fireplace and some TV time with my DH.  I took a quick pic outside this afternoon before attaching the binding.  Hand-stitching the binding to the back of the quilt will be my project for tonight.  

While I was outside I snapped a pic of one of my camellias, too.  They're blooming a little late this year, but it's a joy to see them!  The bushes are covered with buds, so I'm hoping for a nice, long stretch of blooms.  Camellias are certainly associated with Southern culture, but a New Orleanian is more likely to associate them with the Camellia Grill!

If by chance I get the binding sewn down on the mini hearts quilt, I've got my Abundance quilt ready for hand-quilting.  I should have plenty to stitch on during the season finale of Downton Abbey, right?

Abundance Comes in Small Packages

I have been quilting along with Lori of Humble Quilts latest shared project, Abundance.  Here's my completed small quilt, which I made with some well-aged Robin Pandolph fabrics.  I guess I could have fussy-cut the large pink floral print a bit differently to get more pink showing in the outer flying geese blocks, but I'm happy with the final result.  I don't know when I'll start quilting it, as I'm currently working on hand-quilting a small Valentine quilt.  I do look forward to Lori's linky party where everyone shares their version of Abundance!

Shared Abundance

It's time for another quilt-along with Lori of Humble Quilts!  Her antique-inspired small quilts are always fun to assemble.  It's also fun to see all the quilts that result from the quilt-along, as Lori always hosts a linky party for everyone to show off their finished quilt.  

The latest quilt is called Abundance, and it's so charming I knew I wanted to quilt-along as soon as I saw it.

I really wanted to use reproduction fabrics, but no matter how much I played with fabrics in the stash, the color and print combinations just weren't working out.

As I was digging around in the fabric closet, I found this group of fat quarters that has been aging for an unknown number of years.  I knew these would be perfect for my Abundance quilt, even if they're not reproduction fabrics.  The collection is labeled simply "Moda by Robin Pandolph".  I think these may be well over 10 years old!

I finished Part 1 of the quilt last night.  My late evening photography doesn't do justice to the colors.  I'm looking forward to Part 2, which will be posted tomorrow.
